Gambling works as entertainment when it stays within limits you control. We built Vbet with tools that let you set those limits yourself, and this page explains how to use them before you need to.

Why responsible gaming matters

A bet placed for fun can turn into a problem when the stakes climb, the sessions stretch, or the losses start to sting. Responsible gaming means keeping play predictable — you decide in advance how much time and money you're comfortable spending, and the platform enforces those boundaries so a bad day doesn't become a worse week.

We operate under a Netherlands Kansspelautoriteit licence, which requires us to provide control tools and integrate with CRUKS, the national self-exclusion register. Those requirements exist because the risk is real, and the tools work when used early.

Signs gambling is getting out of hand

Watch for these behaviours in yourself — each one is a signal worth acting on:

  • Betting more than you planned to recover losses from an earlier session
  • Lying to family or friends about how much you've spent or how often you play
  • Missing work, skipping meals, or losing sleep because of a gambling session
  • Using money set aside for rent, bills, or groceries to place a bet
  • Feeling anxious, irritable, or restless when you're not gambling
  • Borrowing money or selling possessions to fund your next deposit

Recognising one of these early doesn't mean you've failed. It means you still have time to adjust before the damage spreads.

Questions worth asking yourself

Take two minutes to answer these honestly. If more than two answers are "yes", consider using one of the control tools below or reaching out for support.

  • Have you bet more money than you could afford to lose in the past month?
  • Do you gamble to escape boredom, stress, or loneliness?
  • Have you tried to cut back on gambling but found it difficult to stick to?
  • Do you feel guilty or ashamed after a gambling session?
  • Have arguments with family or friends increased because of your gambling?
  • Do you gamble until all your money is gone?
  • Have you missed important commitments because you were gambling?
  • Do you think about gambling when you're doing something else?

Our control tools

We require every player to set limits during registration, and you can adjust them at any time through your account settings. Reducing a limit takes effect immediately; raising one takes at least a week, which gives you time to reconsider.

Tool What it does How long it lasts
Deposit limit Caps the total amount you can deposit per day, week, or month Ongoing until you change it
Login time limit Restricts how many hours you can stay logged in per day, week, or month Ongoing until you change it
Maximum balance limit Prevents your account balance from exceeding a set figure Ongoing until you change it
Reality Checks Sends a timed alert reminding you how long you've been playing Configurable intervals
Time Out Temporarily blocks access to your account 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, or 6 weeks
Self-exclusion Closes your account immediately and blocks reopening 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, or indefinitely

Self-exclusion through our platform also registers you with CRUKS, the Dutch Central Register, which prevents you from opening accounts at any licensed operator in the Netherlands during the exclusion period. Once active, a CRUKS block cannot be lifted early.

Practical limits that work

Setting a limit is the first step; choosing one that holds under pressure is the second. Here's what tends to work:

  1. Start with your disposable income. Calculate what's left after rent, bills, food, and savings are covered — that's your ceiling, not your starting point.
  2. Pick a weekly deposit cap rather than a monthly one. A £400 monthly limit can vanish in a single bad weekend; splitting it into £100 per week gives you four chances to stop.
  3. Use time limits alongside deposit limits. Capping deposits protects your wallet; capping hours protects everything else — sleep, work, relationships.
  4. Set Reality Checks to 30 minutes. You'll be surprised how quickly two hours pass when you're absorbed in a game.
  5. Take a 24-hour Time Out after a loss that stings. The urge to chase it fades overnight; acting on it in the moment rarely ends well.
  6. Don't raise a limit the same week you hit it. If you're bumping into your cap regularly, the cap is doing its job — raising it is the problem looking for permission.

Where to get help in the UK

Support exists whether you're worried about your own gambling or someone else's. Every service below is free, confidential, and staffed by people who've heard it before.

GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline at 0808 8020 133, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The call is free from landlines and mobiles, and the line offers advice, emotional support, and referrals to local services. Visit gamcare.org.uk for live chat and email options.

BeGambleAware provides information, tools, and direct support online at begambleaware.org. The site includes a self-assessment quiz, budgeting calculators, and links to treatment providers across the UK.

GamStop is a free national self-exclusion scheme that blocks your access to all UK-licensed gambling sites for a period you choose — 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years. Registering takes minutes at gamstop.co.uk, and the block applies across every operator licensed by the UK Gambling Commission.

Gordon Moody offers residential treatment programmes and online support for people whose gambling has caused serious harm. Contact them at gordonmoody.org.uk or call 01384 241292.

Blocking software

If you need a technical barrier rather than relying on willpower alone, two tools are worth installing:

Gamban blocks access to gambling sites and apps across all your devices. It runs in the background, can't be easily bypassed, and costs a small monthly fee. Download it from gamban.com.

BetBlocker is a free alternative that works on desktops, phones, and tablets. Install it from betblocker.org and set the block duration — once active, it requires a cooling-off period before it can be removed.

Protecting minors

Access to our platform is restricted to adults aged 18 and over (18+). We verify age and identity before any deposit is permitted, but a device shared with a minor needs additional controls.

Parental-control software such as Net Nanny, Qustodio, or Norton Family can block gambling sites at the router or device level, and each offers scheduling features that restrict when a device can access the internet. If a child or teenager uses the same laptop, tablet, or phone you gamble on, those tools add a necessary second layer.

Contact

Questions about our responsible gaming tools or your account settings can be sent to [email protected]. We respond within 24 hours during normal business hours, and our support team is available around the clock by phone at +31202595407 or via live chat.

Gambling should be entertainment, not a chore. If it's stopped feeling like one and started feeling like the other, the resources above exist to help you step back before the cost climbs further.

This site is for players aged 18 and over (18+). If gambling ever stops feeling like entertainment, free and confidential help is available at BeGambleAware.org.
